Your fabulous new website is live. Hooray! So, now it’s time to sit back, relax and wait for the sales to start rolling in, right? Well, we hate to break it to you but unfortunately not. Your website may be out there in the big wide world, but this is not where your digital marketing efforts end.
Whilst having a web presence is a brilliant step toward building awareness of your brand, and the awesome products or services that you offer, there are still stacks of things that you need to do to ensure that your website is visible to your audience and that it’s working hard to earn its place in your marketing budget!
If people aren’t visiting your website, there are probably several reasons why. Don’t panic though. There is plenty that you can do to put things right, and in this blog article, we’ll share with you our top three action points!
- Your website doesn’t have enough valuable content
Your website may well look aesthetically pleasing, with gorgeous graphics, beautiful copy and an easy-to-use navigation, but is all that content relevant and useful? Your website should contain enough engaging content to make your reader want to stay and to find out more.
As well as your main website pages, don’t neglect your blog posts. Blogs are the perfect opportunity for you to share fresh and enticing content with your audience. Be consistent and make sure that you keep your blog up to date. If your latest blog post dates back to 2017, then what message does that convey to your visitors? A pretty poor one, that’s what!
Please don’t neglect your calls to action either, and don’t assume that your visitors will automatically know what it is that you want them to do after reading a particular page. Keep it simple and guide them. Think of it as a virtual hand-holding exercise!
Speaking of calls to action, you want to make sure that these are kept up to date to the goals of your business, if you decide to switch the products or services that you are putting front and centre of your offering, your call to action on each page will need to be updates to reflect that.
- Your SEO isn’t up to scratch
Is your website search-engine friendly? If it isn’t, then this could be a big reason why you’re not getting much traffic.
As well as ensuring that your technical SEO is set up correctly, (find out more about that here!), you need to consider your keywords. Are they attracting the right audience? Are they too obvious? Are you second-guessing what you think it is that your target audience will be searching for?
It’s easy to become overwhelmed when it comes to keyword research but there are plenty of keyword tools out there to help you to get started, if you are completley overwhelmed with this, Kittie wrote a great blog to help you out on the topic.
- Your website is slow to load
Slow loading time is another common reason why your website might not be attracting as much traffic as it could. If your website is slow to load, your visitors are going to get impatient and seriously frustrated, and they’re likely to leave very quickly.
There are a few things which could cause your site speed to suffer, such as a slow server or too much data on the website itself, so try to streamline the amount of data that your website contains, this includes video content, large images etc.
Loading time is also an important factor when it comes to search engine rankings, as Google rewards websites with a better-quality user experience by placing them higher in their results!
Once you’ve checked your website for these three main reasons (and ensured that it’s mobile-friendly, of course!), don’t forget to market it elsewhere, including in your email signature and on your social media channels. The more that your website is visible, the more traffic that you will start to receive!
