Writing a blog can feel a little daunting, especially if you’re a newbie to the whole blogging game!

We’ve all been there. You’re sitting at your desk wondering what there is that you can possibly write about. No ideas are coming, and before you know it, hours have passed, and you’re still faced with a blank screen. Don’t panic! It happens to all of us at times, even those of us who have been writing blogs for more years than we care to mention! 

If the dreaded bloggers’ block is sounding all too familiar, then read on to discover how to write brilliant blog posts that your readers are going to love!

Know your audience

Perhaps the most important thing to consider when creating your blog posts is it’s not about you as the writer; it’s entirely about your readers.

Before you put pen to paper (or fingertips to keyboard!), ask yourself the following questions:

  • What would my target audience love to know about?
  • What are their pain points?
  • What challenges are they facing?
  • What do they need help with?
  • How can I solve their problems?
  • How can what my business offers make life easier for them?

A fantastic way of finding the right questions to ask is by looking back through your previous customer communications. Have a browse through old emails and scour your social media posts for any questions that frequently get asked. You can then create your blog post based on something that your audience is actually telling you that they’re interested in.

Build up a bank of ideas

As you know, we’re big on planning and preparation here at Avidmode, and as the famous saying by Benjamin Franklin goes;

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

Clear some space in your diary and spend some time coming up with a few core topics that you can easily talk about in your blogs. Think about your areas of expertise and what it is that you’re most passionate about in your business. 

Start with your main topics and then break those topics down into sub-categories that you could cover.

For example, if you’re a nutritionist, your core topics could be healthy eating, body image and exercise. 

You could then break healthy eating down into sub-categories, such as recipes, food groups, top tips, and healthy habits.

Add into the mix, all of the awareness days and seasonal topics that will pop up throughout the year, and you’ll soon find that you actually have loads of engaging content for your audience to consume!

Be authentic

Nobody really wants to read a staid blog post that looks like it has jumped straight from the pages of a textbook. Boring!

Your readers want to hear from YOU! Show off your personality, be genuine, be likable, and be relatable. Above all, just be yourself.

Take a break!

Do you not find that your best ideas sometimes come to you when you’re least expecting them? You could be walking the dog, hanging out the washing, or relaxing in the bath. Sometimes, the more you sit at your desk and struggle to come up with ideas, the harder it becomes. 

Give your brain a rest and do something entirely different for a while. Inspiration often strikes when you least expect it!

Everybody has to start somewhere, and blog posts are nothing short of awesome for engaging with your audience, generating leads for your business, building your authority, and enhancing your credibility.
